I had a great carefree summer, and now I am back at school. One question has been brought to mind numerous times in the last week, and that is why am I still drumming? Lately the band director here has been getting after me for all sorts of stuff, and has even gone as far as not putting me in our upcoming show. I find this unjust, and yesterday I spent quite a bit of time questioning why I was drumming.
Well let me tell you why I drum, the answer is simply because I love it. Most people do sports or crafts to relieve stress and I drum. I love the way it sounds, the fact that no matter how good I feel I am at drumming there is always something new to learn. It always presents a new challenge, and I live for challenges. I may not always look like I am enjoying myself while I drum, but I am even if my face says otherwise. Generally I am just concentrating and doing my best. I drum for the love of drumming and no one can change that. I am playing cymbals right now on the Utah State University drumline and even though cymbals are not what I wanted to play, I play because I love to drum.

I loved reading this blog entry. It is powerful. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It has made me start wondering why I do the things that I do. It has encouraged me to be proud of the things that I enjoy doing. Thank you Juleea.
